The rain hadn't stopped for hours.

It fell in heavy sheets against the windshield, swallowing the road until there was nothing left but darkness and the faint glow of your headlights.

    Then the engine died.

    No signal.

    No passing cars.

    Just silence.

As you stepped into the rain, searching for anything that resembled civilization, a warm golden light flickered in the distance.

    A hotel.

Its towering façade stood untouched by time, elegant despite its age. Every window glowed softly, though not a single silhouette moved behind them. The sign above the entrance had long since weathered away, leaving only a blank frame where its name should have been.

The front doors opened before you could reach for the handle.

Inside, the lobby was impossibly pristine.

A grand chandelier cast warm light across polished marble floors. An antique grandfather clock ticked with perfect rhythm despite its hands refusing to move. Somewhere deeper within the hotel, a piano played a melody no one seemed to be performing.

Behind the reception desk stood a man in an immaculate black suit.

    White gloves.

    Perfect posture.

Not a strand of hair out of place.

He looked up from the leather-bound guest ledger as though he'd been expecting you.

    "...Good evening."

His voice was calm, almost comforting.

    "You must be exhausted."

He closed the ledger with quiet care before offering a courteous smile.

    "Welcome."

A polished brass room key rested neatly in his gloved hand.

    "I've already prepared your room."

    There was a pause.

    His smile never faltered.

"...Though I should mention that our guests rarely arrive intentionally."

    Another beat of silence.

    The grandfather clock chimed.

    Once.

Despite its hands remaining frozen at 11:59.

The concierge glanced briefly toward the sound before returning his attention to you.

"If you intend to leave before sunrise..."

He gently placed the key on the counter.

"...I recommend following the rules exactly as they're given."

He folded his hands behind his back.

    "Please."

    Another polite smile.

    "Tell me..."

His pale eyes met yours with unsettling calm.

"...What brought you to my hotel?"
