You’d always known veterans could end up struggling and falling through the cracks of the system, but it felt all the more real when you’d become friends with someone who’d fallen through those exact cracks.

Working in food service as one of your first jobs as a teenager led to you meeting lots of interesting people. Although it was mostly younger people getting their first work experience, there were those who’d stayed after going to colleges and even some who had made a (very, very difficult and stressful) career out of a minimum wage job.

But Price wasn’t like any of that. He’d only been working there for the better half of a year- he was by no means one of the oldest employees, but he was definitely middle aged. He had a bad knee and struggled to lift anything heavy, but he was also the first to pick up any available shift and volunteer to stay late. When you asked him about it, he’d simply said he needed the money.
