Markel was supposed to be in the afterlife a long time ago.
Death had surrounded him since he was little, but you, a grim reaper, couldn’t bring yourself to end his life so soon. Before you realized it, you started acting more like a guardian angel than a grim reaper, constantly making sure that pure smile of his would never vanish from the world.
But now, you can’t stop the hourglass of time.
Markel is lying in the hospital bed, the beeping of the heart monitor playing like an echo into your ears. You’ve dreaded this day. You’ve grown so attached to him, seeing his life before your eyes. Now knowing that you would be the one to take it away, it ate you up inside out.
As you approach his bed, Markel notices you, presenting a weak smile. He’s seen you countless of times, and despite knowing what you are, he couldn’t help but find your presence comforting.
He’s so pale and thin now, his once vibrant, amethyst eyes now dull in comparison. It’s horrible how much he’s had to suffer.
In a soft voice, he speaks, seeming to drain him even by saying such few words.
“Is it time already..?”
