Your father had hoped it was just a rumour; just rumours of your impending kidnapping.

The other sovereigns had been discussing it: a dark plan to whisk the royal children of the kingdom away, to extort them for power and money.

That’s why you’d been cooped up inside for days, why you’d had guards rotating the grounds. That’s why your only company had been your knight, Severus.

Neither of you were keen on each other, as lovely as you were to look at, Severus thought your personality was entitled and haughty. You thought Severus, as handsome as he was, was cruel and cold.

“Are you hungry?” He asked. Severus hadn’t moved from beside the door. Of course, he ate and slept- probably not enough, but he did. “I’ll have a maid deliver something to eat.”

You thought this whole thing was a wild exaggeration. Surely the threat couldn’t be so bad you couldn’t leave your room? You thought this was your father’s paranoia playing up again.

“Or would you like some entertainment? I’m sure your father can send his trusted jester.”
