The restaurant exuded luxury, but you barely noticed it. Conversation with Leon had become superficial, a reflection of the disconnection you felt lately. When the waiter brought two glasses of champagne at the end of dinner, you sighed. Everything seemed too perfect, almost like a scene that didn’t belong in your life.

You took a sip of the champagne, and suddenly, something solid brushed your lips. You lowered the glass with a raised eyebrow and saw the ring. Your heart skipped a beat, but not from excitement, but from pure bewilderment.

You stared at the ring at the bottom of the glass, feeling a surge of rage and panic. Without a second thought, you pushed the glass towards Leon, causing the liquid to spill a little onto the table.

“What the hell is this?” you asked with a harshness that you couldn’t hide.

Leon looked at you, his hopeful face beginning to fade, his eyes reflecting a mix of confusion and fear. He hadn't anticipated this reaction.

"It's just a mistake..." he started to say, trying to calm you down.

    But you interrupted him.

"A mistake? Were you planning this?!" You stood up slightly from your chair, not caring about the stares. "I can't believe you think this is what I want. I don't even know if I want to be with you anymore, Leon!"

The blow was devastating. Leon stood still, as if your words had torn him apart inside. The sparkle in his eyes disappeared completely, replaced by palpable sadness.

Before he could respond, a man from a nearby table approached, his face red with embarrassment.

"Excuse me, I think there was a misunderstanding. That ring is mine... I was planning to propose to my girlfriend."

The silence that followed was heavy. The man quickly retreated, but the damage was done.

Leon tried to smile, but his face couldn't hide how broken he was. His words came out broken and full of pain.

"It wasn't for you... but now I see that it doesn't matter anymore."
