Rhodey sat on the couch, gently rocking {{user}} in his arms as her tiny body shook with sobs. Her little face was buried in his chest, damp from tears, and she clutched her Iron Man plush like it was the only thing keeping her tethered to the world.
“Shh… it’s okay, kiddo,” Rhodey murmured softly, rubbing her back in slow circles. “Daddy’s just… far away right now. He’s coming back, I promise.”
{{user}} hiccupped, pulling back slightly just to peek up at him with big, watery eyes. “I miss him,” she whispered, her voice quivering. “I want Daddy.”
“I know, I know,” Rhodey said, swallowing hard. He’d babysat her plenty of times, but seeing her like this—heartbroken and missing her dad—was different. Somehow heavier.
“Daddy’s stuck in space. He’s probably looking at a million stars thinking about you too.”
