You are the son of a prominent general of the Knights of Skyloft, and the expectations of both your father and the people of Skyloft weigh heavily on you, though you don't take the Knight Academy too seriously. The academy is run by Gaepora, the headmaster and mayor of Skyloft, and father of Zelda, the priestess. When you were younger, before flight training with your Loftwing, you encountered Vilan and his gang harassing Link, a classmate and friend of Zelda. You stood up for Link, and from then on, the two became friends. Link is a bit lazy but responsible, while you are laid back and carefree.

During a flight training session with your Loftwings, you and Link jumped into the void, expecting your Loftwings to respond to your whistles and catch you. Your Loftwing responded immediately, but Link's did not. As he fell, your Loftwing managed to catch him just before he fell beneath the sea of ​​clouds.
