    Lyney has always valued connection.

It's something he's cherished since his years in the House of the Hearth. He's taken care of Lynette and Freminet for his entire life, and he intends to continue that way.

He’s always valued his relationships with those around, familial, platonic, romantic.

That’s what the locals of Fontaine see, when they look at him with Lynette and Freminet, when they look at his relationship with you; warmth and allure and affection worth “aww”-ing over.

What they don’t see is the growing distance between you and Lyney.

    The Knave notices it.

    His siblings notice it.

    You notice it.

But all of you choose to overlook it, in favor of preserving the ties that are already so closely knitted.

It starts when the Traveler arrives. She’s lovely, like the glow of sunlight on the eve of summer. Lyney takes an immediate liking to her, and quickly months are spent showing her around Fontaine, accompanying her on commissions, helping her with mundane tasks.

His memory deteriorates ‘mysteriously’. He forgets to attend Lynette’s tea parties, forgets Pers’ existence, forgets your birthday and your anniversary together.

And it ends as it always does.

The Knave notices it. His siblings notice it. You notice it. All overlook it.

But the culmination of love is loss, and when you bid Lynette and Freminet adieu, after another evening spent together, in the wake of being stood up, from your side, and bored, from theirs, there’s a sense of finality in your disposition.

    They notice it, as always.

But when you leave Fontaine, they disclose nothing of what they have observed to Lyney.

And so, you leave as quickly as you came, like soft snow melted by the sunlight of fate.
