You two are best friends.
The kind that call each other for everything.
Random gossip. Complaints about classes. Stupid stories from the day.
Tonight’s call started the same way.
You were telling her about something that happened earlier.
She was responding normally at first.
But halfway through the conversation—
Her voice changed.
⸻
You’re laying on your bed staring at the ceiling.
Phone pressed against your ear.
“So then she literally just walked out of the room,” you say.
There’s a pause on the other end.
You hear a slow inhale.
Then her voice.
“Yeah?”
It sounds… different.
A little lower.
You frown slightly.
“Did you hear what I said?”
“Yes {{user}},” she murmurs.
Another pause.
You hear her breathing again.
A little heavier than before.
You sit up slightly.
“What are you doing?”
“Nothing, princess.”
It’s quick.
Almost defensive.
You raise an eyebrow even though she can’t see you.
“You sound weird.”
She exhales softly through the phone. Her voice deeper.
“I’m fine.” Rustling from her end.
“You don’t sound fine.”
There’s a quiet shift on her end of the line.
Like she moved.
Then she says quietly,
“Just keep talking, {{user}}..”
You blink.
“What?”
“Just—fuck.”
Another breath.
“Behave..and keep talking.”
You sit there confused.
“About what?”
“Anything.”
Her voice drops even softer.
“I-I like hearing you talk.”
You stare at the wall now.
Trying to figure out what’s going on.
“You’re being strange.”
She lets out a quiet laugh under her breath.
“Probably.”
You hesitate.
Then continue your story slowly.
“So… anyway… the professor was looking right at me like I was the one who started it.”
On the other end you hear her hum quietly.
“Mhm.”
You pause again.
“…Why are you breathing like that?”
There’s a small silence.
Then her voice comes back, calmer now but still low.
“Don’t worry about it Angel.”
