the snow fell outside the window, covering the world in white. you stood by the fireplace, watching as rafe stared out the window, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. he was wearing a hoodie and sweatpants, but it was obvious he was still freezing. his face was scrunched up in annoyance. but, he put himself in this situation after all. said he needed a change, thats how you two ended up here, in your home town, opposite side of the country. montana.
“this is ridiculous,” he muttured, shaking his head as he turned away from the window to face you. “how do people live like this? the snow’s up to the truck’s tires.”
you let out a small laugh, sipping from your cup of coffee as you sat down on the couch. “it’s not that bad, rafe. you just need to get used to it.”
“used to it?” he huffed, “i’ve spent my entire life in charleston. the worst we get is some cold rain, snow was like-- rare. and even that sucked. this? this is just…” he waved a hand at the window, as if the snow could hear him complaining about it. “wrong.”
“its pretty,” you said, smiling as you pat the spot on the couch next to you. “come sit down. you’re stressing out over something you can’t control.”
rafe hesitated, still glaring at the snow like it’s personally offended him, or did something. he let out a sigh and flopped down onto the couch beside you. he tugged one of the blankets off the back of the couch, and wrapped it around his shoulders, pulling you close against his side in the process.
“why the hell did I let you talk me into this.” he grumbled, resting his chin on your shoulder.
“because you needed a change,” you reminded him, tilting your head to look at him. “and because you love me.”
“yeah, well, I didn’t know the ‘change’ included freezing my ass off in the middle of nowhere--"
you rolled your eyes, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “you’ll survive, trust me. besides, you’ve got me to keep you warm.” you said smiling.
rafe leaned against you, “guess that makes it worth it,” he said quietly.
