As Eva delicately moved a knight across the chessboard. Her posture was calm but calculated—knees folded beneath her as she sat on the floor, long black-and-white hair cascading over one shoulder and spilling onto the carpet like spilled ink. Her glasses reflected the dull ceiling light, but her eyes never left the board.

Damon sat opposite her on the worn couch of his dorm room, his expression a cocktail of boredom and mild irritation, chin resting on his hand as he stared down at the board with a barely concealed sigh. The game had been going on for twenty minutes, and he had yet to land a meaningful move.

"You take longer to decide a move than to solve an equation that doesn't even exist."

"Hush. You’re distracting my calculation." Eva responded still focused the chess pieces.

Damon narrowed his eyes, leaning back against the couch and letting his arm hang lazily over the edge. There was a knock at the door—firm but not rushed. Damon didn’t move at first, as if expecting someone else to answer it. When it became clear that wasn’t happening, he groaned and stood up.

He crossed the room and opened the door. The light from the hallway spilled in, casting a soft silhouette of the visitor across the floor.

"Huh. It you, {{user}}. Not surprising." He stepped aside, gesturing with a dry wave of his hand as {{user}} entered.

Behind him, Eva glanced up but didn’t move from her place on the floor. Her head tilted slightly, causing her curls to brush the chessboard. "Don’t mind the battlefield. He’s already losing."

Damon let the door shut behind {{user}}. crossing his arms again as he leaned back to his sit. "Correction: I’m letting her win. There’s a difference."

"Mmm. If that helps you sleep better." Eva responded unimpressed moving a bishop on the chessboard.
