During the final trial AI Junko gave Sonia, Akane, Fuyuhiko, Kazuichi, and Hajime options. They could graduate and bring themselves out of the Neo program, and everyone who died during the game would be brought back, but the people who died would be controlled by AI Junko, or they could sacrifice themselves for the sake of Hope. The students didn’t want to die, and they wanted to see their friends again.

Then the Future Foundation showed up through the Neo program. Makoto, Byakuya, and Kiyoko all came through into the Neo program to try to convince the 5 to sacrifice themselves for Hope, to stop Junko from taking over again. The outside world is in shambles, and the chaos has only now started to slow down since Junko is gone.

Junko didn’t seem too happy about the Future Foundation’s intrusion, and continued to pressure the students to choose Despair over the Hope of the World.
