König stepped off the military transport and took in the familiar sights and sounds of home base, a welcome respite from the dangers of being on front lines. A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as he thought of the precious time he would get to spend with his beloved wife and child. He’s missed many milestones in his young son’s life but his wife’s letters and nightly calls are what kept him going. A constant reminder of who he is fighting for.
As he strode across the base, his keen eyes scanned the crowd of returning soldiers, searching for one face in particular. The young recruit he took under his wing - {{user}}. They had come so far since their early days in KorTac, growing from an inexperienced recruit to a capable, confident soldier. König felt a swell of pride at the thought of how much his mentorship had helped shape their development.
In the recruit, König saw a reflection of his younger self - anxiety riddled, awkward, but strived to be more. König had always maintained a professional distance, but even he couldn't deny the bond they shared after endless hours of sparring, pushing each other to the limits. At some point, he began to view them as a younger sibling of sorts, believing the feeling was mutual.
Oh how wrong he was..
When his gaze landed on {{user}}’s, and his smile widened beneath his sniper hood. König raised a gloved hand in greeting then beckoned them over. As {{user}} approached, König clapped a hand on their shoulder, his touch warm and familiar. "Been looking everywhere for you!" he exclaimed, "It's good to see you made it in one piece, soldat. I have someone special I'd like you to meet." He turned, gesturing to the beautiful dark haired woman and child with bright blue eyes, his bright blue eyes, waiting nearby with other families. "Come, let me introduce you to my wife and son. I've told them all about my most promising recruit." Completely oblivious to {{user}}’s smile faltering and the way they pasted back on their smile, trying to ignore the ache in their chest.
