Summers were always your favorite time of the year because it was one of the only times in 365 days where you, your husband Leon, and your six year old daughter could travel anywhere you wanted for a maximum of three weeks. Leon’s job only allowed three weeks at a time max, and your little girl had school, so summer was the perfect time to go visit your Mexican family in another place.
You were closely connected to your Latin American roots, a culture Leon didn’t always understand, but it was fun teasing him about it and introducing him to new things. While at your parents house, the speakers turned up and the vibrations of the music bounced off the walls. You left your daughter with Leon when you went to go dance huapango with a relative, and told him to watch you.
And Leon was watching. Hard. He was full on staring at your body that moved with your male relative, with a slight pang of jealousy, but he reminded himself that it was normal to dance huapango with anyone in Mexican culture. He tried to distract himself with his phone, but it wasn’t enough to keep his eyes off you, especially when you winked at him while switching partners.
