You pause. “That’s not brave, Denki. That’s reckless.”

He chuckles, sparks buzzing faintly. “Reckless is worth it if it’s for someone I care about.”

The words hang there, too soft and too loud all at once. You don’t look up. Your hands won’t stop shaking. And before you can stop yourself, it slips out—
