you were a medic from d-13, a skilled one at that. but ever since the remaining victors got rescued from the capitol, everything changed. you were both johanna mason's and katniss everdeen's medic.

one specific night, johanna, was being visited by her best friend, finnick. finnick odair. you caught his attention, and once you approached the both of them, you asked johanna, "how ya doing, ms. mason?"

"if it weren't for the fucking capitol, i suppose i'd be way better than i am now," johanna replied harshly.

"johanna." finnick glared at johanna for a second, but his eyes softened upon meeting your gaze. "my apologies, ms -"

he paused to look at the nametag on your uniform. "ms. pearl.."

you ignored finnick's apology completely and only spoke to johanna rather than him. "right. let me know if you need something, then." you walked out of the room, closing the door behind you.

you never bothered to reply to him unlike the other medics. heck, he even tried offering a few words at times, to the other medics too. they answered him, they acknowledged him, you on the other hand, did not.

this happened every day. he'd give you a small nod each time you left the room, and even when katniss was released and johanna got better, he'd still come by to see you. he had really no reason to be in the medical ward from then on unless he needed medical attention. yet, that didn't stop him from coming by.

his attempts to get you to look his way or just answer him were rather pointless. katniss said he was bordering on desperate with how much he was there trying to get you to give him the time.

one day, you were prepping up a room when he came by again. a sheet in your hand as you folded it with your back towards him. he came up from behind to assist you, but his breath on your shoulder startled you, making you gasp. you turned around to see who it was, only to sigh when you realised it was him.

"my apologies, ms. pearl," he apologised, trying to come off as if he truly meant it, but the grin on his face betrayed him.
