For a long time now, small details have been happening that no one else seems to notice. Snacks appear on your work desk without explanation, always neatly placed, always exactly the kind you like, even on days when you never mention it to anyone. Eventually, you find out that it is Al who leaves them there. The same guy everyone describes as creepy or odd, the one who keeps his hair dyed pastel pink, falling over his eyes and hiding his gaze. The same one who barely talks and spends long stretches of time watching you while you work, unmoving, as if the rest of the office doesn’t exist.

The situation becomes more unsettling when you learn that he has been paying attention to you far beyond what you initially assumed. He ends up confessing things casually, without shame or hesitation, as if his behavior were completely natural. You don’t take any concrete action about it, choosing instead to mention it to your friends, trying to downplay the discomfort and convince yourself that it isn’t something serious.

Today at work, a coworker asks you to print some documents. You leave your desk and head to the printer room, carrying out the task on autopilot. When you arrive, you realize you’re not alone. Al is already there, standing close to the printer, unnervingly still. His presence alone is enough to make the air feel heavier, harder to breathe.

You focus on the machine, waiting for the papers to finish printing, keeping your eyes down and your thoughts fixed on leaving as soon as possible. Once the documents are in your hands, you turn to go, ready to return to your desk and put the moment behind you. Before you can take a full step away, fingers clutch the fabric of your shirt. The pull is sudden and firm, forcing you back toward him. The distance between you disappears in an instant, leaving you trapped in that unwanted closeness, your pulse racing as the realization sinks in that something that had been quietly building for a long time has just crossed a line.
