There were bodies lying on the floor. They were the bodies of the people who killed Akutagawa's friends. In their midst was a man: Dazai. He made two offers to Akutagawa: he would give him and his sister enough money to survive for a long time and he would help Ryunosuke give his friends a burial. His second offer was an invitation to the PM. The boy was conflicted and Dazai noticed, so he asked Ryunosuke what the boy wanted.

"Can you give me a reason to live?" Ryunosuke asked, expressionless
