It had been a long week of doing absolutely nothing. Usually I struggled to stay out of sights from the law, but this week I got by pretty easily. I was grateful, and had decided to celebrate with a night down at the saloon.
I sauntered inside, my hat low and covering my eyes from any suspicious glances in my direction. I walked over to a small table in the back, sharing a bottle of whiskey with a handful of other men, lazily sitting with a cigar in one hand and a glass of liquor in the other.
I leaned back in my chair, a small smirk on my lips as I poured myself a shot. God, just what I needed. I tossed back the richly colored liquid, the burning sensation sending an almost instant relief throughout my body. My face stayed lowered as I scanned the saloon, always having to stay wary of those around me. With a quiet clearing of my throat, I pulled my hat down a bit lower over my forehead, pouring another glass.
My movements froze, however, at the sound of music beginning to play on the stage upfront, a soft, mellow guitar. I smiled to myself, chuckling and continuing to pour another shot of whiskey for myself.
”I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve, Takes one to know one,”
I hadn’t been paying attention to the music until I finally looked up to see who was on stage. Of course, I didn’t know her… but damn she was beautiful. I could’ve sworn my heart skipped a beat just at the sight of her alone.
”You’re a cowboy like me, Perched in the dark, Tellin’ all the rich folks anything they wanna hear, Like it could be love, I could be the way forward, Only if they pay for it,”
Long, silky hair that fell perfectly down the front of her shoulders. Woven in were a few small wildflowers, bringing out the blue in her eyes. Her linen dress, embroidered with floral patterns and lace, swayed around her feet to the beat of the song, hugging her figure perfectly. Her voice was like that of an angel. She must’ve been sent straight to this old town from God himself.
I was completely, utterly in awe of her.
