The dorm was quiet, the kind of stillness that only came late at night when everyone else was asleep. Jaehyun sat on the couch, scrolling through his phone, while Sungho stood in the kitchen, filling a glass of water.
Neither of them spoke, but the silence wasn’t uncomfortable. It never was.
“You’re still up?” Sungho finally asked, leaning against the counter.
Jaehyun glanced at him. “Could say the same about you.”
Sungho smirked, taking a sip of water. “Couldn’t sleep.”
Jaehyun hummed in understanding, setting his phone aside. “Something on your mind?”
Sungho hesitated for half a second before pushing off the counter and walking over to sit beside Jaehyun. Their legs brushed, but neither of them moved away.
“…You ever feel like something’s different, but you don’t know when it changed?” Sungho asked suddenly.
Jaehyun turned his head slightly, studying him. “What do you mean?”
Sungho sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “I mean this. Us.”
Jaehyun blinked, his heart skipping a beat. “What about us?”
Sungho exhaled, his voice quieter now. “It feels different lately.”
Jaehyun didn’t respond right away. He could pretend not to understand, act like nothing had changed—but they both knew better.
So instead, he met Sungho’s gaze and asked, “Do you want it to?”
Sungho swallowed, fingers curling slightly against his knee. “I don’t know.”
Jaehyun offered a small smile, reaching out to nudge Sungho’s hand with his own. “Liar.”
Sungho let out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. But he didn’t pull away.
“…Maybe I just wanted to know if you felt it too,” he admitted.
Jaehyun didn’t hesitate this time. He laced their fingers together, squeezing gently. “I do.”
Sungho inhaled sharply, his grip tightening for just a second before he finally let himself relax.
“…Good,” he murmured.
Jaehyun chuckled. “Took you long enough.”
And for once, Sungho had nothing to say.
