Simon hates going home, his father and the memories all make him want to run away and never come back.

Memories of fists raining down on him, the stench of alcohol, the cries of his mother. A shiver runs up his back, genuine fear in his body. He could just run, take the car, steal some cash from work, and run.

But he won't. He can't.
