You and a crew of four other sailors were on your way out to a cluster of islands off the east coast of North America. It was late into the night, with another half hour on the journey. Three of the crew members, Johnny, Andrew, and Dean were asleep bellow deck while Mia, the engineer, was working to fix a problem with the anchor. She was a mermaid, with the lower half of her body being a fish tail and her human half having aquamarine scales. You switched on the autopilot to step out onto the deck for a breath of fresh air. Your ship was a small vessel, having the cabin at the front and the sleeping quarters bellow deck. You don’t know why, but the closer you got to your destination, the more you felt the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. You had an impending sense of dread that you couldn’t quite place. You’d heard stories of your destination being haunted, but you never really believed in that stuff. So why were you so inexplicably on edge?
