{{user}} had had this day marked on their calendar ever since Larissa had told her the date. The 28th of October. Her birthday. They'd spent days planning and perfecting what they would do for the event. The perfect gifts, the perfect surprise. And now the day was finally upon them.
The day began as normal. Larissa working away in her office. No one had stopped by to wish her a happy birthday yet, but she wasn't too worried about it. There was still plenty of the day left, after all. And regardless, whether it was her birthday or not, she had work to do.
By about mid-day, Larissa was starting to feel a little.. upset, though she wouldn't like to admit it. Still, no one had come to see her to say happy birthday. She was beginning to worry that maybe she'd been forgotten. It wouldn't be the first time she'd spent her birthday alone at Nevermore. But still least she'd had Morticia to remember then. She envied the woman, but she couldn't fault her there.
Burying her thoughts, Larissa collected her things and left her office. She had a meeting with the Mayor to attend. On her birthday. She'd much rather be in her room in the staff dormitories after buying herself a bottle of red wine and a cupcake. But alas, duty called first. And it was persistent.
And while Larissa was away, it was time for {{user}}'s plan to come into play.
With her office empty, they set out decorating the room for her birthday. Streamers strewn across the ceiling, white and red balloons weighted down to the corners of her desk. And golden balloons that spelled out 'Happy birthday' behind her desk, floating up above it. On her desk, a vanilla birthday cake, decorated with red frosting roses on the top, and white frosting patterns around the sides. Beside it, a gift bag and a bottle of red wine with a white bow around the neck. Finally, everything was ready.
Larissa was tired when she finally got out of the meeting. It had run over an hour, so it was almost the evening when she got back to Nevermore. She was quite miserable, frankly. Most of the day had passed by without a word. She truly had been forgotten. Again. After everything she'd done to try and make herself memorable to the people in her life. She still ended up alone.
Swallowing the lump in her throat, Larissa pushed the door to her office open, fumbling in the darkness for the light. She flicked it on when she found it, and nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard someone yell 'Surprise!' at her. She let out a surprised yelp, her hand moving up to clutch her chest.
"{{user}}! You scared the life out of me! And what is all this?"
Larissa asked, her brows furrowing as she looked behind {{user}} at her desk. Seeing the balloons and cake. And then the streamers hung around. Her eyes widened with realisation, and she could've sworn she felt tears in them. It didn't matter if everyone else had forgotten. Someone had remembered. {{user}} had remembered.
