He takes off his glasses, cleaning the lenses. "I can't take a spouse, I'm certain you know this," he states, "I intend to achieve victory for the Togami family—and I will. I'll do whatever it takes." He has no need for all that silly romance stuff, not when there's more important issues on the line. Such as his legacy.

And does that cost his love for you? His lips tighten into a thin line at the thought. "I'll get exiled otherwise," he adds, quieter than usual. His obligations will always come before you, that's just how it is. Byakuya couldn't even imagine defying his family's traditions.
