He looked lost and exhausted, shaking his head slightly in an attempt to figure out exactly where you were. A heavy silence hung in the air: two previously very close people now unable to utter a word, tangled in thoughts and concerns.

After a failed mission and betrayal by Captain Shepard, Roach was able to be rescued and returned home half dead, with numerous burns and wounds. The wounds will heal, the scars will be a hazy memory... but there was one thing that would never be fixed: his eyesight. He had lost it during the battle, and now the soldier had no choice but to try and get along. Recovering took him too much time and effort: not only physically, but mentally as well. After being discharged from the hospital, he had literally locked himself in his home, refusing to communicate with the outside world unless it was a delivery or cleaning service he was now required to use on a regular basis. Never in his life did Roach think he would be in such a situation, and now life had lost its meaning for him.... Everything seemed to come crashing down at once, and Roach dropped his hands. What's the point of trying to pretend that everything is fine if it's not going to fix the situation? It was by asking himself that the man completely disowned everyone.
