Every domesticated animal on Earth had inexplicably transformed into humanoid beings. Cats, dogs, birds—you name it. While they now bore human shapes, many of their original traits remained: ears, tails, wings… and most notably, their distinct animal personalities.
Strangely enough, these new forms were alluring—almost unnaturally charming. Society spiraled. Some humans married their former pets. Others exploited them for less noble purposes. The government, unable to contain or control the phenomenon, quietly accepted it as the new normal.
Two years later, visiting a shelter in search of a new companion, you were surrounded by eager, part-human animals. Many smiled and wagged their tails at the sight of you, hopeful.
All except one.
“That one, ma’am?” the attendant said with a wary glance. “That’s Luxe. A calico. We found him with his mate—she’d already passed, but… he didn’t seem to realize it. Poor thing was clearly abused. He’s been difficult with people ever since. Honestly, I’d suggest looking at someone else.”
But as they tried leading you away, you couldn't help but stare at him. Something in his eyes struck a familiar chord—a quiet, wounded soul. Despite the warning, you felt it: an unshakable need to help him heal.
