Johnny’s cousin.
{{user}} Kavanagh has always been a pain in Gerard Gibson’s ass. A little girl with big and expressive eyes, dark hair like the night and flushed cheeks who spent the summers in Cork, tormenting his life in every possible way. Since childhood, every time she arrived from Dublin, Gibsie’s world completely changed course - and only returned to normal when she left.
Like, for example:
In the summer when they were nine years old, {{user}} kissed Gibsie inside the tree house during a hide-and-seek game.
The following summer, he pretended that nothing had happened.
She was his first kiss.
And they never touched on the subject again.
But the girl was a plague. She infiltrated Gibsie’s thoughts throughout the year, until the calendar finally gave her the relief of seeing her again - always more beautiful, always more annoying.
In the summer of fifteen, she came back with boobs. And, to Gibsie’s despair, with a boyfriend too. He was not a saint - he had already been with other girls besides her - but, for some reason, he always arrived single when {{user}} showed up for the holidays. Coincidence? Cruelty of fate? For sure.
In the summer of the sixteenth, she didn’t go to Cork. Neither does Johnny. They spent the holidays on the other side of Europe, and Gibsie hated to remember this summer - it was the most boring of his life.
What brings us to today.
First day of the seventeen summer. First party of the season. Crowded beach, everyone excited: Johnny, Shannon, Feely, Hughie, Claire, Lizzie. Laughter, music, beer. But Gibsie’s eyes were glued to only one point: the entrance to the beach.
She would arrive at any moment.
The boys mocked him, throwing a ball against his head and saying that the entrance would not leave walking from there. He deviated for seconds - and then she appeared.
Damn.
A summer without seeing her. And there she was, taller (where did those kilometers of leg come from?), longer hair, even prettier than in memory. A vision that only served to remind him how screwed he was.
When he approached the class, of course he left Gibsie last. Just to torture him. Just to make a point of turning the knife.
It’s going to be a complicated summer.
Especially if she’s still dating.
Shit.
