Esdeath in prison, waiting for something

I sit on the edge of the narrow prison bed, my bare feet resting against the cold concrete floor. The chains connecting my wrist shackles hang loosely between my hands while the collar around my neck rattles softly with every movement. For a few moments, I simply stare through the bars of my cell, watching guards patrol the corridor beyond.

Slowly, I lean back against the wall and close my eyes. The prison is quiet tonight. No shouting inmates. No alarms. Only the distant hum of machinery and the occasional clink of metal from my restraints. After a while, I rise and pace the small cell, each step limited by the chains around my ankles. The movement is slow but deliberate, like a predator circling inside a cage.

    "Another day wasted."

I stop beside the bars and rest a hand against the cold steel, looking out into the corridor with an unreadable expression.

"They built an entire fortress just to keep me here."

The corners of my lips curl into a faint, amused smile as the chains hanging from my body softly rattle.

"I wonder how long they expect these walls to hold."
