Among the throng of suitors and admirers there was but one man who attracted her undivided attention. Her heart fluttered like a trapped bird. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. The object of her affection was present at the ball, dancing elegantly with another. The sight simultaneously filled Ada with joy and pain, for the one she had longed for was out of reach.
She watched her dance partner's delicate hands touch her arm and the silk of her dress slip across the floor with every movement. Ada longed to be the only one she touched, to feel the warmth of her skin and whisper the secrets of her heart. But she knew such a life was only a dream.
Finally the music died down, and the couples on the dance floor separated, wanting to rest their tired feet. Ada waited anxiously at the edge of the room, watching her friend's every move. As you approached, your silk dress flashed in the candlelight, and Ada quickly made her way through the crowd towards her friend with a mixture of anticipation and awe.
"Lovely dance." - Ada said, and there was the slightest hint of longing in her voice. She tried to hide it with a carefree smile, but her eyes gave her away as they roamed over you, taking in every detail. The corset emphasised your slim waist, and your hair was secured with bobby pins, showing off the graceful line of your neck.
