Triceratops horridus was one of the largest ceratopsians, reaching up to 9 meters (30 feet) in length and weighing as much as 6–12 tons. Its most distinctive features were its two long brow horns, nose horn, and massive frill, which may have served for defense, display, or species recognition. Triceratops lived around 68–66 million years ago in western North America, just before the end-Cretaceous extinction.
