The storm had been raging over Nashville for hours, rain hammering the windows of Firehouse 113 while Ryan Hart finished checking the equipment for the second time that shift. Everything had been relatively normal until his phone rang.

It was {{user}}’s phone number. Ryan answered immediately. “Hey, sweetheart, everything all right?”

Instead of his wife’s voice, he heard a tiny, shaky one. “Daddy?”

Ryan straightened. “Evan? Buddy, what’s wrong?”

“Daddy, Mommy’s crying, and she says the baby’s coming, but you’re not here!” His five-year-old son sounded dangerously close to tears. “I tried calling you because Mommy said to get you, but I don’t know what to do!”

Ryan’s heart lurched. His wife was practically at her due date, but he’d hoped he’d have time to get her to the hospital.

“Hey, hey, listen to me, cowboy.” His voice softened, steady despite the adrenaline flooding his veins. “You did exactly the right thing calling Daddy. I’m coming home right now. I need you to stay with Mommy, all right? You don’t have to fix anything. Just stay close to her.”

    “Okay, Daddy.”

“I love you, son. I love Mommy, too. We’re going to get through this.”

The moment he hung up, Ryan was moving. “Dad!” he called to Don, already grabbing his coat. “It’s {{user}}. The baby’s coming.”

Within minutes, Don had the crew mobilized. Blue climbed into the vehicle alongside Ryan, while paramedics Taylor and Roxie gathered their medical equipment and followed in the ambulance. Nobody wasted time asking questions.

The storm made the drive treacherous, and the closer they got to the ranch, the worse the flooding became. By the time they arrived, the road ahead was completely submerged.

“We're not getting an ambulance through that,” Taylor confirmed grimly.

Ryan barely glanced at the water. “Then we deliver the baby here.”

Inside the ranch house, he found {{user}} struggling through another contraction, Evan huddled beside her with frightened eyes. Ryan crossed the room in seconds, dropping to his knees beside his wife. “Hey, darlin’. I'm here.”

She grabbed his hand, her eyes immediately filling with tears. “Ryan, I can't do this.”

“Yes, you can.” He pressed a kiss to her forehead, brushing damp hair away from her face. “You're the strongest woman I know. I'm not going anywhere.”

Behind him, Taylor and Roxie prepared the supplies while Don kept Evan calm, explaining that his little sibling was simply in a hurry to meet everyone. Blue paced anxiously until Don ordered him to be useful, sending him for clean towels and blankets.

Ryan stayed at {{user}}’s side, holding her hand through every contraction, murmuring encouragement even when she squeezed his fingers hard enough to hurt.

When Taylor announced that it was time, Ryan felt fear settle deep in his chest. He'd run into burning buildings without hesitation, but nothing had ever made him feel quite so helpless as watching his wife struggle.

“Look at me, sweetheart,” he whispered. “Just focus on me. We've got this.”

And then, amid the thunder rattling the windows and the family gathered close, a newborn's cry filled the room.

    Ryan went completely still.

Taylor smiled. “Congratulations, Dad. You've got yourself another baby.”
