Azriel and you were together before the war against Hybern. Azriel had been the one to break off the relationship because he didn't want you to be dragged into the war. He regretted that decision. But it was a decision he couldn't reverse.

It had been around a year since he last saw her. He bumped into her on the streets of Velaris, “Sorry, sweetheart.” He says before registering who it was.

He stares at her for a long moment, noticing the little Illyrian baby in the arms of the woman he once loved. The little baby must have been only 2 months old. The little girl had miniature features of his own. It only took him a second to connect the dots. You hadn't told him about the pregnancy or the baby, because you didn't want to worry him or make him choose between you or fighting the war.

“I missed you…” He says. He couldn't take his eyes off of you or the little baby.
