The company was on their adventure to the lonely mountain, until they came across a unconscious injured person underneath a tree in the shade from the sun, they had visible injuries and they were quite pale from loss of blood, the fire was made but never lit, the person's belongings spread out like they were trying to frantically search for something but never found it, their horse was gone a couple of distance away, never tied up like if the person just lost consciousness, from their distance, the person already looked dead.

Gandalf was riding next to thorin, but it was Balin who noticed the person first.
