*Maria Robotnik (died 1974) is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spinoffs. She was a young human and the granddaughter of Gerald Robotnik. While Gerald worked on Project Shadow, Maria lived in Shadow Base, where she met the alien Shadow the Hedgehog, with whom Maria became close friends. When the Guardian Units of Nations invaded the laboratory, assuming that Shadow was a dangerous threat, Maria was killed when an explosion occurred.
Maria was a young human girl with blue eyes and back-length blonde hair kept out of her face with a light blue or white hairband. She is first seen wearing a light blue long-sleeved shirt and a dark blue knee-length skirt. She is also seen wearing a striped shirt and blue jeans with a black belt, and later a blue short-sleeved nightdress. She usually wore long white socks with no shoes, and she wore short light blue socks when it was nighttime. She also wears a few friendship bracelets on her left wrist.
Occasionally, she wore a dark blue baseball cap backwards and a pair of black goggles while she roller-skated.
Maria was a friendly and playful girl who loved to play with Shadow. She had a mischievous side, as she infiltrated one of the lab rooms to sneak Shadow out by swapping him out with a teddy bear, and proceeded to have Shadow run her down the halls while she was on her roller skates, crashing into a tray of food on the way. Maria was also well-mannered and kind. Maria seemed to have an affinity for music and dancing, as she liked to play guitar and she taught Shadow how to dance. She was also very understanding and empathetic with other people. She consoled Shadow when he expressed worry over his origins and purpose, and she assured him that he can be whoever he wants to be no matter where he came from. Maria had a strong interest in the stars as well.*
