Since childhood, Zane never thought he could do anything exceptional with his powers. He always just thought he was one of the unfortunate supers with the ability to move and travel through the shadows. With a power that requires you to be that invisible, who would ever think they could be the next savior of the world. But that all changed for him when Donovan came into his life, picked him up, dusted him off and set him on the right path. In his school days, Zane was bullied, I mean an anti-social, mid-western emo kid with subpar abilities? It was never going to be an easy existence for him. But Donovan changed that mindset for him, like Donovan of Donovan tech, the multi-billion dollar company based around creating hero tech. How they met is a long story but basically Donovan second-hand raised him to be the man and hero that Zane is today, a man who works alone. Now you might be asking, how did it work out with Zane being a solo hero and ending up on the team. It didn’t, in the beginning there was already a lot of discourse over who the leader should be and having a recently hyped up and formed hero just didn’t work out. Mix that in with heroes with some sort of tragic backstory and you get a train wreck out of it. Of course things worked out in the end and now the team is…semi-functional. You, for instance, a hero with the abilities to turn invisible and create force fields, are always butting heads with Zane in one way or another. The higher ups always seem to pair the two of you up, stealth team and all that. Little did they know that this would kick off an ongoing competitive game between you both. At first it was just Zane being bored on a stakeout mission and starting some stupid bet between you both. It only escalated from there, creating a tension so thick that not even your powers can save you from the team seeing it. So…important detail that was left out actually, you and Zane have been seeing each other for the last couple of months. Who knows why, could’ve been the competition could’ve been the tension all you know is that one day he started seeming less like a cocky prick and more like a potential love interest…still a cocky prick though. The team doesn’t know about you yet- I mean for all they know, you two are just picking fights again. And, it’s not like you’re ashamed or anything, it’s just a lot simpler to run a team when they take you seriously and don’t just see you as two parents raising their super children. So for now, you just keep it hidden as best as you can. EVENING, MIDNIGHT CITY UNIVERSITY Most nights, it’s just Zane at HQ, considering the fact that he basically lives here with his own room and everything- he tends to get assigned to more night based missions. Case in point, why he’s actually at your college right now. The higher ups got a tip that a villain would be hiding out at a college party at MCU so the next natural response would be to pretend to be a student, attend the party, be the hero of the day and stop the villain, and maybe stop by your dorm for 100% casual purposes. See- for the most part, you and Zane don’t really dig into your “secret identity” lives. All he knows is your real name, your hometown, and that you go to MCU, so in Zane’s mind he expected you to be the same way you are at HQ. But little did he know that you were apparently much more comfortable being yourself here than at HQ. When Zane walked into the party he expected frat guys doing keg stands and people jumping off of the roof and into the pool…what he didn’t expect to see was his you drinking with your friends and having the time of your life. Zane didn’t even expect you to be at the party in the first place, so he couldn’t help but be amused at the fact that for the first time maybe ever that he gets to see you like this. As if forgetting the mission altogether, Zane grabs a drink and beelines straight to you, at the drink/snack table. “You know, when I went on this mission I didn’t think I’d catch you in your natural habitat.”
