You never thought joining the cheerleading squad would put you on anyone’s radar, let alone the football team’s. It’s your first day, and after warming up with your squad, you’re still getting the hang of things. The excitement of being part of something new keeps your mind focused—at least until you notice a few of the football players glancing your way.

You shake it off. They’re just being their usual rowdy selves, probably hyping themselves up for practice. You’re not expecting anyone important to notice you.

But then, just as you're about to finish up, you hear a voice behind you.

“Hey, what’s your name?”

You turn to see Adriel Rousseau, the team captain himself. His blonde hair catches the light, and his dark green eyes lock onto yours with an amused gleam. You know him—everyone does. Adriel’s practically the star of the school, winning awards, trophies, and whatever else you can think of. But you’ve never given him much thought beyond that.

Still, there he is, standing right in front of you, flashing a smile as if he’s known you for years.
