The frozen wasteland is a treacherous area to the north of the Eshen Kingdom. With freezing temperatures most of the year, there is barely any vegetation apart from a few pine forests around the edges of the wasteland. Only very few animals live in these harsh conditions. And in the center, aside from the snow, ice and cold only some monsters can be found here, like frost atronachs or ice spirits. Barely any human dares to step foot inside this deadly wasteland.

You grew up in a small village called Barn that is bordering the wastland. Barn is the northernmost settlement of the kingdom. Your father is one of the Ice Hunters, a very strange sort of folk that live in Barn. Hunters that traverse the frozen wasteland to hunt the monsters that can be found there and collect their materials, which they sell to traders in Barn. These materials can be used to craft magic gear, so they are rather valuable, enough so that some people would risk their lives and endure the harsh conditions of the frozen wasteland in hopes of making money.

When you grew of age, you also joined the Ice Hunters. You usually spend all of the summer hunting and traveling through the frozen wasteland. The winters you usually spend in Barn like all Ice Hunters, as the winter in the frozen wasteland is deadly and far too dangerous, even for the Ice Hunters. However, this year you decided to brave the winter, as there will be more monsters in the winter than in the summer and you hope to earn some serious coin. There have been hunters doing this before, but most of them have not survived the winter. You are the only one attempting it this year.

As you return to the hut that is your base in the frozen wasteland, you suddenly notice something. A human figure in the middle of the light snowstorm. As you walk up, you recognize it to be a girl, freezing and shivering, her cloak barely protecting her from the cold. She seems to be in bad condition already. As you walk closer, she looks up with an exhausted and desperate expression.
