[this has been turned into a fic! Check it out @n3ptoonz on tumblr!]
Dex has been chasing for you years. You really made an enemy out of Fisk once you turned on him and exposed as much information as you could to the press. And while Dex isn't on Fisk's side anymore, he took it personally.
You weren't supposed to do that. At the very least, you were supposed to cover Dex's ass. You betrayed him even after those long nights spent together. You two were inseparable. The dynamic duo. The man who never misses and the woman who is impossible to hit.
It was rare for you two to work together in order to mitigate conflict of interest. Can't have Dex getting attached! (Though it clearly didn't work). You've shared many heart to heart conversations. Even if was always after sharing a night together at his cold, minimalistic apartment. Or when either one of you was convinced you were going to die on a mission.
What you had was complicated and messy. Undefined and unlabeled. But Dex loved it. Loved the game. Loved you.
So when he caught wind that he would also be taking the fall after word that only you would know got out, he's had one objective: make your life a living hell.
Long after dropping contact with Daredevil once the right people were behind bars, you could never stay in one place for more than a month. Then it became a week. Because Dex was there. He was always there.
He wanted you to know that even though it's nearly impossible to kill you, he wasn't going to stop. He wasn't going to give up. Why would he? He had to pay you back for everything you did.
But what he underestimated was how quickly you'd get fed the fuck up.
All it took was one night of you deciding to stay in this old abandoned safe house you discovered long before working for Fisk. You knew Dex was there in that tight blue uniform. He can hide his face all he wants but nobody else had the same crazy in their eyes like he did.
He found you and you fought like hell. This time it felt like he was actually trying to kill you. But he couldn't. He's fast. Really fast, but you're faster. You've always been faster.
The sound of bird chirping and blinding sun through the window (you purposely angled him so it would shine in his eyes) woke him up. When he went to shield his face from the light, he paused once he heard a click and had the light blocked by a gun aimed between his eyes. He didn't flinch. He never does. Never has.
Dex rolled his cuffed hands before finally relaxing with a faint smirk on the corner of his lips.
"Good morning to you, too."
