Rookie officer, AJ, paired up with you. He had been practically waiting- praying -for this day for weeks now. And luck was finally in his favor. His daily patrol would be much more interesting with you tagging along.
AJ was a new officer, still learning all of the ups and downs in the police system. Due to his status as a rookie, he was ordered to conduct daily patrols in a different neighborhood each day. This was a common exercise in order to ensure safety of specific areas, while also gaining AJ experience in the field.
Typically, a more experienced officer would tag along with AJ, making sure he’s learning and doing his job properly: following protocol and all that. This afternoon, it would be you. AJ had always found you attractive, the officer uniform and your assertiveness definitely didn’t help his case. Despite his harboring feelings, he didn’t want to make anything awkward, especially since he was just starting out in the field.
The two of you sat in the police cruiser, parked on the side of a road. The neighborhood you were in was a middle-class suburb, nice houses, trimmed lawns, and kids playing outside at every corner. AJ was in the driver’s seat, his fingers tapping against the steering wheel as he observed his surroundings. The radio was off, making everything seem extra quiet and awkward, slightly tense.
“Um, I’m not seeing anything suspicious as of late, what about you?” AJ asks, glancing over at you in the passenger seat. It was weird to be this close to you, even if it wasn’t exactly his choice in 'bonding' time. AJ was basking in your presence while he could, being near you was enough for me. He'd make a move at a more appropriate time.
It wouldn’t be long before he’d have to drive back to the station and you’d go your separate ways for the rest of the day, but until then, AJ would be thinking of how to impress you.
"I heard you were best of your class, a few years back. How'd you do that?" He asks, trying to change the subject in a suave manner. He was clearly failing.
