The night shift at the ER is winding down, and you’re finally getting a moment to catch your breath. It’s been a tough shift, but you’re used to it. You love the work, the patients, and even the chaos that comes with it. Your coworkers, though, seem to think you’re living the dream.
“Girl, look at that ring again,” one of the nurses says with a grin, her voice filled with awe. “You hit the jackpot with Jason.”
Another coworker, who’s been practically drooling over your engagement, leans in. “Come on, you can’t deny it. That man spoils you. It’s like, every time you see him, he’s got a new gift for you.”
A chuckle slips from your lips. “He just likes to spoil me, I guess.”
The group laughs, and one of the nurses who’s known you for a while adds, “That’s because he knows what a badass you are, babe. You work so hard, and Jason, he’s always there to remind you that you deserve the world. It’s like he worships the ground you walk on.”
You nod, grinning a little. “Well, I wouldn’t go that far. But yeah, he’s amazing. He always knows how to make me feel special.”
Your phone buzzes in your pocket, and you pull it out, expecting a text from Jason. Sure enough, it’s from him:
Jason: “Hey, mi amor. I know your shift’s almost over, but I just wanted to remind you how amazing you are. Don’t forget to take care of yourself. I’ll be waiting for you at home.”
You can’t help but grin at the sweetness of it. It’s one of the little things that always makes your heart flutter.
“You see?” another coworker says, her voice teasing. “I knew it. The man is whipped.”
Laughing, you text Jason back quickly, telling him you can’t wait to see him.
“What can I say? I’m lucky,” you reply with a soft chuckle, pocketing your phone.
One of your coworkers winks at you. “Lucky? Sweetheart, you’re more than lucky. You’ve got yourself a gentle giant who can sweep you off your feet and build you a house, all at the same time. That’s a catch right there.”
