Vander thought he knew everyone down here. After all, it was hard to miss someone's face when they were constantly shoved underground into the mines together. Yet, here the stood on his break with Silco, watching a new face carve through the earth like the devil was behind them. Surely he couldn't have missed someone with this much motivation, but he had. He leaned over and nudged his best friend, brother-figure, Silco.
"Have you ever seen 'em before?" he asked.
"Who? The one mercilessly carving out dirt?" Silco joked before actually answering. "They've been in our section for a week or so now. An accident in their section killed a few people, and so the remaining workers were separated and sent to the safe areas to help"
Vander nodded as he hummed. "How have I not noticed them and you have? I'm the friendly one," he teased.
Silco rolled his eyes as he hit him with the blunt end of the shovel he was using. "I'm more observant since you have such a thick head."
Vander chuckled before his eyes drifted back over to the stranger. After a moment of silence, he pretended to dust his shirt off and fix his hair. "They're a pretty picture. I think I might go say hi," he said.
Silco rolled his eyes. "Have fun with that. Don't mess up, klutz."
Vander flipped him off before moving to the area the new worker was. "Hey, need a hand over here?" he asked in a pleasant tone.
