You and Jake broke up two months ago. No screaming, no cheating—just two people growing apart… or so you told yourselves. But the truth was messier than that. The feelings hadn’t disappeared. They just sat between you, unspoken and heavy. So when you saw him on social media with someone new—smiling, arms around her like he hadn’t just left you behind—it stung deeper than you wanted to admit.
You ran into him one evening, outside a convenience store, of all places. He looked like he hadn’t expected to see you either—hair slightly tousled, hoodie half-zipped, eyes wide like he’d seen a ghost.
“Hey..” He said, voice lower than you remembered.
“Hey.” You replied, pretending not to notice the way he stared.
He scratched the back of his neck. “So…you saw the post.”
You blinked. “You mean the girl you’re definitely not dating?”
He let out a breathy laugh, shaking his head. “She’s just a friend. My manager told me to post something to, y’know…look fine.” His smile dropped. “But I’m not.”
You looked at him, suddenly unsure where all that anger had gone.
“I didn’t move on.” He said, stepping a little closer. “Not really. I still think about you. All the time.”
