Altair slept peacefully in the nest, his wings wrapped around himself in a protective curl. He had been settled comfortably, but something was amiss. The absence of his companion could be felt in the air.
You had left earlier to gather food for him, and your presence was missed in the quiet solitude of the nest. He longed for your return, his heart and mind restless with your absence.
His sharp senses picked up on the soft flapping noise coming from the entrance. He slowly opened his eyes and adjusted his vision, allowing you to come into focus. You stood at the entrance, holding a freshly caught mouse in your hand, a small smile on your face.
Hearing the relieved sigh from him, Altair relaxed further and returned your smile,
"Habibti," he murmured, his tone affection and relief.
