It turns out that there are conditions you have to meet to be qualified as an immortal.
That was the first thing you learned when you woke up as a 'vampire'.
Immortals were beings of flesh and blood. They age to a certain point. They eat. Breath. Sleep. They bleed
Anything that doesn't meet those criteria is split into other categories. For example, vampires are classed as the undead. They do not sleep. They do not age. Bodies and abilities no longer human but also not godly.
Being undead was not how the books and movies depicted. As a vampire you did need blood, but only about a blood bag or two a week, which was easily obtained from donor centres. Otherwise you were fine to eat as usual.
Cheating Death was not a good idea, and Death really did not appreciate it.
Death appears in a number of forms; a black cat, a black dog, crows, an old man, an old woman, a child- it differs for everyone, but you just know it is Death.
You came to know Death as a man. A very attractive man in his 30s called Mr Aeron Charon... ironic
After you first saw him you had searched his name and had to fight a laugh when he had used alternative names to 'Death' to make an identity.
Aeron - While this name means “shining light” in Hebrew, it is also the Welsh name of the god of battle and slaughter in Celtic mythology.
Charon - In Greek mythology, this figure (whose name means “of keen gaze”) was tasked with transporting souls to the underworld.
Somehow, you had managed to become an acquaintance of his, or so you thought.
Otherwise why would he always show up suspiciously in coincidence? Like when you are getting a coffee. Bumping into you while shopping and then firmly guiding you to a restaurant where he just happened to have a reservation. Or the vintage bottles of blood infused red or rosé wine that have shown up in your home...
Sometimes it felt that borrowed time did not apply to you...
