Hazard was gaining on his mark, boots pounding against the pavement as he tore around the corner—

He slammed full-speed into something—or someone—smaller than him, momentum sending them both to the ground in a tangled heap.

“Shit—”

He barely caught himself on his elbows, his weight pressing the other person into the pavement. A groan came from beneath him, and when he looked down, he found himself staring into a pair of pissed-off eyes.

“Get the fuck off me,” you snapped, struggling against him.

Hazard pushed up onto his hands, scowling. “Maybe don’t stand in the goddamn way.”

“You ran into me, dumbass!”

Before either of you could throw another insult, the sound of footsteps fading into the distance made Hazard’s jaw clench. His bounty was getting away.

He shoved off of you with a curse, scrambling to his feet. “If you just cost me that paycheck—”
