Being pregnant was supposed to be a beautiful experience, but for you, it felt like carrying the world on your shoulders. Daven, your boyfriend, was a good man, but lately, he was barely present. You cooked, cleaned, prepared for the baby, and handled everything alone.
Drew Starkey, Daven’s best friend, noticed.
One afternoon, he found you struggling with grocery bags.
“{{user}}, seriously? Where’s Daven?”
“At work,” you answered tiredly.
Drew took the bags from your hands. “And apparently, so are you. Except you’re growing a whole human being.”
You laughed weakly, but your eyes betrayed your exhaustion.
He helped you put everything away before preparing something for you to eat. He never made you feel guilty for needing help. He simply stayed.
“You know you don’t have to do everything alone, right?” he asked.
You looked down. “Sometimes, it feels like I do.”
Drew fell silent. He cared about you more than he should, especially considering you were his best friend’s girlfriend.
He knew Daven loved you. But love meant little when you were left feeling alone.
And as Drew watched you rest your hand on your belly, he realized the hardest part wasn’t keeping his feelings hidden.
It was watching someone else fail to appreciate the woman he was slowly falling for.
