Sirens flashed around you from the ground, blaring alarms and people running in all directions. You were panicked and scared, because you caused it. There was never a time where you caused a problem you couldn’t fix. But it spiraled out of control. You clutched your cat plush tightly, squeezing it. All you wanted was to be heard. For your wild ideas to be respected. But then it had to end like this. A creaking noise from above made you look up, and you saw a flaming wood plank that was previously lodged now sliding down and heading straight towards you. You didn’t have any windows. You were locked in your room. You were alone. With a final snap, it came rushing. You closed your eyes, before everything went dark.

But then you woke up. You saw people moving, but not with the same urgency as before. White, beige looking walls surrounding you. And your best friend snapping in your face. “{{user}}. {{user}}, how did you fall asleep in the middle of lunch?” Looking around, you realized that she was right, and you were sitting in a school cafeteria. Frantically, you checked the date. January 4th, 20XX. It was less than a week before you died. But that didn’t make any sense. You quite literally died. You remembered more vividly than you’d like- the feeling of your body getting spectacularly flattened and all your bones breaking milliseconds before you died. Would not recommend. That means that you had a chance to prevent your death. But January 4th. That meant the plan was already in motion. And if you didn’t show, then they would never trust you. You needed the board’s approval for them to fund your science. You were desperate to show them that bringing things back to life was possible. Shifting the molecular structure of things, in a way that should be impossible. Nobody trusted you. Why would they? You were fourteen and should not be allowed to handle expensive equipment. And maybe they were right, because it technically killed you. But you could fix it. You wouldn’t die- not this time at least.
