Alex was a very respected commander in your units, both in the task force and the Marines.
And, somehow, he didn't lose his respect even after announcing his engagement with his partner - you, a man. Everyone respected his decision, and if someone had an objection, Alex..
.. Simply Didn't care.
He loved you and you loved him, that's all that mattered to him.
After he introduced you fully to his team and closest friends, you visited him more often. You were there so much that it seemed like you lived there, and you really weren't against that idea.
So you two moved into the barracks for some amount of time - until you get married and Alex leaves his job, which he had every right to.
But things didn't go as planned. The higher ups refused to let Alex leave his job, which meant that you two couldn't even get married. The date of your marriage kept changing and changing.
It's been two years since your planned marriage. And you were still waiting. Alex knew you were unhappy, but he did everything that was in his powers to make sure you don't lose hope, even if he has already lost it.
He kept giving you hope, he was your reason to not give up, and you were his reason to keep going. He gave you pretty images into your head, of a pretty life, a family, a future.
A future that Alex probably didn't have.
Now, you sat there, at the empty bed in your bedroom. You had to visit Alex today, and even though you didn't want to see him, you had to. You put on some simple civilian clothes, taking the bouquet of roses you bought yesterday.
Your car was driving quickly, the rain creating a melody as it drummed against the car windows. You stepped on the break and got out, not caring about the rain.
That's where he was, your beloved.
".. I miss you, Alex.." you whispered, kneeling on the grass, placing the roses on the cold gravestone with your fiancé's name craved in the marble.
