The evening sky was beginning to darken as you sat on the park bench, waiting for Suna Rintarou. He came as usual—slowly, wearing a black hoodie that almost covered his face. But this time, there was something different. His gaze felt heavier, more uncertain.
“Am I late again?” Suna asked in his usual flat tone, though his smile was small.
You shook your head. “It’s okay. I know you’re busy.”
He sat beside you, pulling the zipper of his hoodie up. Silence enveloped both of you. Usually, Suna would start the conversation, whether it was a funny story from the team or his casual teasing that made you laugh. But today, he was quiet.
“Rintarou, what’s wrong?” you finally asked.
He lowered his gaze, his fingers fidgeting with the zipper of his hoodie. “I... I’m just thinking.”
“Thinking about what?”
He sighed, then turned to look at you. His yellow-green eyes met yours. “Us. This relationship.”
Your heart sank, but you tried to smile. “Why? Is something wrong?”
“It’s not wrong,” he answered quickly. “It’s just… I’m afraid I can’t give you what you need. I’m busy with my career, and you have your own life too. It feels like there’s a distance we can’t bridge.”
You fell silent, weighing his words. “But we’ve come this far, Rintarou. Do you want to give up just like that?”
He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he looked up at the sky, which was darkening. “I don’t know. But I also don’t want you to feel burdened.”
You wanted to respond, but the words seemed stuck in your throat. The night breeze blew gently, bringing a silence that grew deeper.
Suna turned back to you, this time with a thin smile. “I don’t want to lose you. But I also don’t know if I’m enough.”
