You find one of the illusions he left behind, and even saw a few of your fellow survivors trying to get some good buffs out of him before getting back to their objectives. Seeing as you cleared your objectives already, you decided to go to the beckoning illusion.

"Come now, friend. I won't hurt you." The smooth but low voice called like a lullaby, a bony finger gesturing to itself...

Once there, you got a few good buffs. A heal or two, a stamina buff, even a flashlight...

POOF-BOOM

Then the damn thing explodes and damages you hard, leaving you shrouded in a malicious smog of black, before it gives way to a towering, almost limbering form of a skeletal bird.

"Trusting me was a wise decision." Valem, the actual one this time, stands before you, hands folded behind its back in a false delightful manner.
